I think that this advertisement is geared towards families
and tourists. The advertisement uses color, dynamic camera angles, content, and
a slogan to appeal to our need for affiliation and escape. The colors in the ad
are very bright, with a focus on yellow and blue especially. These two colors
give off a fun energy, and reminds us of the beach, and other traditional
summer activities. These are really good images for Yas Waterworld. It helps
them fulfil the need to escape, since going to the beach and relaxing in the
summer time are all things that we want to do to escape our seemingly boring
everyday lives. The dynamic camera angles show the iconic snake ride from a
slanted angle, making the snakes seem big exciting. It also gives a distorted and
blurred view of the water, making it seem almost endless. It also uses pathos
when the father-daughter duo become a main part of the ad, seeing a family
appeals to our emotion and the audience sees this and might imagine themselves
in this situation. This all helps to give YWW a familiar yet exciting image. The
endless water helps to fulfil the need to escape and relax and the father-daughter
duo helps fulfil the need to affiliate with family and a group. The slogan says,
“The world has spoken Yas Waterworld on Yas Island is the world’s leading
waterpark”. This is an exaggeration and is also a great example of
superlatives. The term, ‘the world’ is very vague and is used as an authority.
This, coupled with the little emblem in the corner, helps bolster YWW’s
credibility, and is an example of ethos. The text is written in big, bubbly
letters, keeping with the blue/yellow color scheme. This helps it remain eye
catching, even with the huge snake ride on the right. It also could connect to
the fact that YWW is catered towards families, so the font should look fun and
interesting, just to emphasize that idea.
I think that this is a very good and accurate analysis of the print advertisement. You have touched on all the possible components of the ad by describing the way it looks, to who it appeals, to the camera angles used and the fact that it appeals to emotion. Your analysis is clear and well written. You described everything from how the father and daughter in the image feels, to how the advertisement makes the audience feel. Really well done on spotting the exaggeration in the advertisement and linking it to how it affects the audience.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with the idea that families are the main target for the ad. You can clearly see that by the father and daughter on the middle of the poster. I also think that the camera angle makes the slides look much more epic in scale than how they really are. The rounded font also makes the title look a lot more friendly and apealing to families with children.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about the audience of the Yas Waterworld ad. I like how you brought in the colors, and camera angles and how these factors influence the targeted audience.
