How can examining a literary text from different perspectives enrich our understanding of both the work and the techniques used by the writer. Base on two works studies.

In The Thief and the Dogs and Things Fall Apart, both novels are complex in meaning, and using different perspectives and critical lenses, the reader is able to gain more understanding of the novels, in terms of understanding character motivation, allegorical meanings, and wider social implications made by the novels. When focusing on the reader response for both of the books, and more specifically the context of production, a lot of the allegorical meanings behind the characters and overall conflicts are more obvious in both novels. - - Mahfouz wrote The Thief and the Dogs after the Egyptian revolution, and uses Said’s character as a way to express his disappointment towards the Nasserite regime. Smiling, Knife-Wielding Marie Kondo Orders Followers To Leave Behind Cluttered Physical Forms This piece was published in The Onion on the 22 nd of November, 2019. In the article it uses satire and a deadpan voice in order to poke fun at Marie Kondo for her iconic character as a gentle, eternally smiling, and emotionless cleaning consultant. The article juxtaposes her on-screen, harmless persona with the image of her leading a cult of followers to mass suicide, this is seen in the title itself with Kondo “Smiling” and “Knife-Wielding”. The article uses her as an example for how popularity is like being a leader of a cult, where one can generate a huge and loyal following and then use that for whatever they like, especially if they appear harmless and helpful at the start.

things fall apart - plot points

One important plot point is when Okonkwo kills Ikemefuma. Okonkwo’s decision to go against what the people of his village deem appropriate, in favor for what he thinks matches up with his ideals, has repercussions throughout the story. This struggle between what follows the village’s way of thinking, versus Okonkwo’s desire to be as manly as possible is a reoccurring motif throughout the story, as it is one of the major internal conflicts of Okonkwo. This action also makes Okonkwo and Nwoye’s relationship even more strained, and it is one of the things that convinces him to convert to Christianity later. Another important plot point is when Nwoye converts to Christianity. This happened when Nwoye had an epiphany on the realities of his situation. When the missionaries come Nwoye’s faith and passion is once again rekindled.
